At TeamSmile, we believe every child deserves a healthy smile—and the confidence that comes with it. We are the nation’s premier advocacy group connecting oral health professionals with professional athletic organizations to provide life-changing dental care to underserved children in communities across the country.

Through our programs, children receive FREE dental screenings, oral health education, and treatment—including cleanings, fillings, and even extractions, all delivered with care, compassion, and a whole lot of fun.

The Impact: By the Numbers

Since our inception in 2007, TeamSmile has:

Conducted over 325 programs
Served more than 60,000 children
Provided over $22 million in free dental care and education

Each program brings together 125–175 volunteers, serves approximately 250 children, and delivers $75,000 to $125,000 in no-cost care to those who need it most.

Where It All Began

One Child, One Smile, One Life Changed

In 2007, a heartbreaking story on NBC Nightly News told of a young boy who died from an untreated abscessed tooth. Lacking access to proper dental care, his family was unable to intervene in time. The infection spread to his brain, and despite medical intervention, he passed away.

Deeply moved and compelled to act, Dr. Bill Busch, a Kansas City dentist, set out to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. That same year, TeamSmile was born—hosting its very first outreach program with the Kansas City Chiefs. What started as one act of compassion has grown into a national movement to protect and uplift vulnerable children.

Sports, Smiles & Special Moments

TeamSmile turns fear into fun by creating unforgettable experiences for the children we serve. We bring kids to iconic stadiums and arenas, where they’re greeted by NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and MLS players, cheerleaders, mascots, DJs, face painters, and more.

We use the power of sports to break down barriers, ease dental anxiety, and create positive memories that last a lifetime. The excitement and joy surrounding the event help reshape how children see dental care—not as something scary, but as something empowering.

Beyond the Program

Building a Future of Care

Our mission doesn’t stop after the event ends. Through the TeamSmile Dental Home Project, powered by DentaQuest, we connect at-risk children to long-term dental care providers in their communities. Whether through Medicaid or pro bono services, more than 5,700 children have been paired with local dentists to ensure continued, preventive care that lasts far beyond the stadium gates.

This long-term vision means our work isn’t just about one day of care—it’s about sustained health and lifelong impact.
